Woman hurt when car hits Dix Hills spa
A minivan driven by a 74-year-old woman plowed into a storefront spa in Dix Hills on Wednesday morning, injuring a customer, officials and the spa owner said.
A photograph from the scene shows the minivan deep inside the Cactus Salon and Day Spa at 1262 E. Jericho Tpke.
"It went about 20 feet into the store, past the front desk, through the waiting area and struck a wall," Joseph Secreti, owner of the Cactus chain of salons, said in a telephone interview.
A Commack woman who was in the store was taken to Huntington Hospital with leg injuries that were not life-threatening, the Suffolk County Police Department said. The driver's condition was not immediately known. Neither of the women were identified.
"It was a minivan driven by an elderly woman, who might have had a heart attack or a medical condition of some kind," Secreti said after visiting the salon.
He said the accident occurred shortly before noon, and that the salon manager "called me, hysterical."
The accident closed an eastbound lane of Jericho Turnpike, the state Department of Transportation said.
Suffolk police, Huntington Manor Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad emergency personnel went to the scene.
