A Lake Ronkonkoma woman was killed Wednesday when she was hit by a sports utility vehicle as she walked across Portion Road, Suffolk County police said.

Denise Baglivi, 53, was crossing Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma at about 6:30 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Explorer, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Explorer was driven by Betty Heller, 77, of Farmingville, police said. She was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said, and Fourth Squad detectives are investigating the incident.
