Woman killed in car crash on Southern State

A woman was killed in a car crash on the Southern State Parkway in West Islip late Friday night, fire department officials said.

The woman, who officials said appeared to be in her late 20s, was traveling west on the parkway when her car left the road and struck a tree west of Bay Shore Road about 11:25 p.m.

One westbound lane was closed while state police investigated the crash.

Officials said early Saturday they did not know the identity of the victim.
