An East Quogue woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday night in Flanders, police said.

Southampton Town police said Beth Gruebel, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at about 7 p.m. on County Road 105 between County Road 104 and Flanders Road. She was alone in the vehicle, which overturned. It is believed she was not wearing a seat belt.

Police said excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

They also said the vehicle, a 1997 Ford Explorer, had "at least one inadequate tire."

Police said the vehicle was northbound on County Road 105 when it left the road and struck several trees.

It was unclear Wednesday whether Gruebel had been ejected from the vehicle.

The road was closed for about 3 1/2 hours for an investigation, police said.

Police ask anyone with information to contact them at 631-728-5000 or at 631-728-3454. You can also contact them at crimetips@southamptonny.gov. Police said all calls will remain confidential.
