Woman killed in Northern State crash
A woman driving on the Northern State Parkway was killed Thursday in an accident that closed the road for nearly six hours, state officials said.
New York State Police said Ilana Lambertus, 24, of East Northport, was driving west in her Honda Civic when she drove onto the shoulder, moved back onto the road and sideswiped a Honda Accord before striking a tree.
The crash occurred at 11:19 a.m. near Wolf Hill Road, police said. Westbound lanes from exits 42 in Dix Hills to 41 in Huntington Station reopened at 5:01 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.
Lambertus, who was alone in the car, was extricated by members of the Dix Hills Fire Department, who transported her to Huntington Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said. The driver and passengers in the Accord were taken to Huntington Hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said.
Witnesses may contact state troopers at 631-756-3300.
