Woman killed in Smithtown crash

A Hauppauge woman was killed Friday morning as she pulled in front of a pickup truck on Route 347 in Smithtown, Suffolk County police said.
Marlene Strober, 64, was driving a 2002 Saab north on Plaisted Avenue just after 9 a.m. when she "pulled out in front of the pickup" traveling east on Route 347, police said in a news release.
Strober, of Hoffman Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and the driver of the pickup, Rafael Robles, 50, of East Lakeland Street in Bay Shore, was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center with chest injuries.
Fourth Squad detectives are investigating the crash.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety inspections, police said.
