Woman killed, tot critical in Yaphank crash
A woman was killed and a 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after the car they were in collided with another vehicle Monday night in Yaphank, Suffolk police said.
Police said a call came in at 8:01 p.m. about a two-car crash. The woman's car had collided with a vehicle traveling north on Yaphank Avenue as she pulled out of Mason Street in an attempt to make a left turn to southbound Yaphank Avenue, police said.
The woman, 36, died at the scene and the girl was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with critical head trauma. She was later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital.
A man driving the northbound car and his female passenger were treated at the scene. Police are continuing the investigation.
