Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Monday morning at the edge of a parking lot in Riverhead.

The unidentified woman, who appears to be Hispanic and about 30 years old, was found at 8:20 a.m., at the Riverhead Shopping Center at 200 Old Country Rd., Suffolk County police said in a news release.

An employee coming to work at the shopping center saw the body and called Riverhead police who came and found the woman dead, said Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, Suffolk County police.

"There were no obvious signs of violence," he said. As for cause of death, "anything's possible."

While police can't say for sure who the woman was, they do have a lead, he said.

She was found at a small strip mall with a convenience store, state Department of Motor Vehicles, restaurants and a financial institution.

The body was transported to the Suffolk County medical examiner's office for an autopsy, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS or homicide detectives at 631-852-6392.
