Wrong-way S. State driver charged with DWI
A Central Islip man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday night, Suffolk police said, after three people were injured in crashes involving his truck -- one while he was going the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway.
Police said Luis Quintanilla, 40, was driving a 2001 Ford on Route 111 in Central Islip about 10:50 p.m. when he hit the back of a 1999 Pontiac driven by John Doyle, 41, of Lake Grove, police said.
The impact caused Doyle's car to ram a 2007 Dodge driven by Jonathan Sessa, 29.
After the crash, police said Quintanilla fled, entering the westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway, but traveling eastbound.
Quintanilla's car then crashed head-on with a 1998 Saturn driven by Richard Foos, 36, of North Babylon, police said.
Doyle, Sessa and Foos were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries that police said were not life-threatening.
Quintanilla, who was not injured, was charged with driving while intoxicated. At his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, Quintanilla was ordered held on $15,000 cash bail or bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
