An 8-year-old boy was hit by a car and seriously injured while riding his bike in Wyandanch on Friday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The child was struck at about 3:30 p.m. He was riding his bike on Brook Avenue, near where that road intersects with Spruce Street, when he “veered into the middle of the roadway” and was hit by a 2016 Honda CR-V, according to the department’s press release.

Police said he was seriously injured and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for treatment.

The 25-year-old Wyandanch woman who was driving the car was uninjured, but ticketed for driving “with a permit only,” according to the press release, which added that her vehicle was “impounded for a safety check.”

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
