A Wyandanch man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Wednesday by Suffolk police for the shooting of a Crips street gang member and another person earlier this month in Huntington Station, authorities said.

Tarodney Sanders, 34, was arrested in Wyandanch, and is accused of shooting and seriously wounding Ariel Perez, 21, a Crips member, and Bonnie McCoy, 23, of Riverhead, a bystander, on Aug. 3, police said.

Both victims and several others were outside on Church Street about 2 a.m., when they were approached by a man with a handgun who began shooting, police said.

The shooting took place about a block and a half from the Jack Abrams School. That school was closed to students last month by school district officials concerned for student safety, following several violent encounters in the surrounding neighborhood.

Sanders was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Central Islip.
