Wyandanch man charged with robbing cabdrivers
A Wyandanch man was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with robbing eight taxicab drivers in Deer Park, Wyandanch and Brentwood in a spree dating back to February, police said.
Suffolk County police said Marcel Cobb, 31, of Nicholls Road, was arrested by First Precinct officers John McGlynn and Dane Flynn after being spotted on the street in Wyandanch following the latest robbery incident. A driver for Best Ride Taxi Company told police he picked up a fare at the Deer Park Long Island Rail Road station and took him to West 23rd Street in Deer Park at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday - and said that once there, the man took his money, cell phone and car keys.
Cobb was charged with seven counts of robbery for the incidents, which police said occurred between Feb. 19 and Wednesday. He also was charged for an eighth robbery for an Aug. 7 incident, police said. Police said in that incident, they believe Cobb robbed a taxi driver who picked him up at the LIRR station in Brentwood.
Cobb was held overnight pending arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip. Police said the case remains under investigation.
