A 37-year-old Wyandanch man was killed early Sunday when he lost control of his car on the rain-slicked Southern Parkway and struck a tree, police said.

Byron Aguilar was driving his 1996 Ford Taurus eastbound near the exit for Belmont Avenue when the car skidded off the wet roadway onto the shoulder and struck a tree on the driver's side door at 3:10 a.m. He was the lone person in the vehicle, State Police said in a Monday news release.

Aguilar was pronounced dead at the scene by a North Babylon Fire Department emergency medical technician, police said.
