An Amityville man has been arrested after repeatedly backing into a Suffolk County police sergeant's vehicle early Saturday before pulling away and sparking a police chase from Commack to Huntington Station, authorities said.

A Fourth Precinct sergeant tried to stop Wymann Wiggins, 26, believed to have been driving while drunk, in a parking lot near Route 25 and Kings Park Road in Commack about 4 a.m., police said.

When the sergeant exited his vehicle, Wiggins backed his 2008 Toyota Avalon sedan into the police vehicle several times before fleeing, police said.

Soon after, the suspect was seen driving along Route 25 in Commack, where officers tried pulling him over, officers said.

Unable to slow Wiggins, authorities used spike strip to puncture his tires at Route 25 at Manor Road.

But the vehicle kept going, later crashing on Longfellow Drive in Huntington Station. The driver ran, leading officers on another pursuit before being captured and arrested, police said.

Wiggins was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing of a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. No details were provided on the nature of the controlled substance.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
