The MTA is considering a 5.5 percent increase in fares, the highest increase in a decade. Among other changes, fewer cars on Long Island Rail Road trains, and reduced weekday LIRR service to shrink a projected annual deficit that could reach $3 billion. Newsday's Alfonso Castillo reports.

Some aspects of the East Side Access megaproject will not be ready this year, a previous target date for the project. An MTA report noted that the construction of the LIRR's new concourse and facilities at Grand Central won't be done until February, "due to additional time required to complete all remaining work." Newsday's Alfonso Castillo reports.

On Wednesday it was announced that following the Sept. 8 cyberattack on the Suffolk County government, the driver's license numbers of 470,000 people who were issued moving violations in Suffolk during most of the past decade may have been exposed.
