Ruth Ellerd, of Ridge, killed in single-vehicle crash in Rocky Point, police say

A 66-year-old Ridge woman was killed Tuesday night after her vehicle crashed into a tree in Rocky Point, police said.
Suffolk County Seventh Precinct detectives are investigating the single-vehicle crash that happened at approximately 8:50 p.m.
Police say Ruth Ellerd was driving a 2017 Honda HRV south on Rocky Point Yaphank Road, a half mile north of Whiskey Road, when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree.
Ellerd was transported via Rocky Point Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Honda was impounded for a safety check.
