For Long Islanders looking to enjoy the unofficial kickoff to summer this Memorial Day weekend, two out of three ain't bad.

First, the good news.

Saturday and most of Sunday are looking dry and sunny, with temperatures topping out in the mid-70s and clear visibility for spectators to enjoy the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park without getting wet. The chance of a scattered shower Sunday night is possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Now, the bad news.

Memorial Day on Monday could be a near total wash out, albeit with a brief window in the morning for early risers to hit the beach and grab some elusive sunshine.

Rainfall totals could near a quarter of an inch with temperatures in the mid-to-high 60s, the Weather Service said.

“The timing could still change a little bit,” said Brian Ramsey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. “There could still be a couple of showers in the morning on Monday but it will mostly arrive after lunchtime.”

The air show is just one of several Memorial Day weekend events.

On Saturday, U.S. attack helicopters will land at Cricket Field 11 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Patrons will see performances by the Navy Band Northeast and Navy Ceremonial Guard, a fast rope demonstration and other military displays.

Events also run during Fleet Week, which began Thursday and continues through May 28. Fleet Week brings U.S. warships into major U.S. cities and offers members of the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard a chance to interact with locals and form community bonds.
