'All hands on deck' in Southold

In Southold, Highway Superintendent Dan Goodwin spent much of Monday on a payloader, he told Newsday. “It’s all hands on deck,” he said, estimating about 35 to 40 employees were still out on the roads as of late Monday afternoon.
Their efforts were often hampered by equipment breakdowns, he said. “When you’re dealing with a snowfall of this magnitude, you’re going to expect to have quite a bit of mechanical issues and on top of it, this was a very wet snow so it’s extremely heavy.”
He estimated snowdrifts to be over 10 feet in some locations.
