'Stuck' at LIRR station, she contemplates $120 taxi to airport
Elizabeth Dement, 40, of Houston, Texas , was visiting a friend on Long Island and had intended to take the railroad.
“I had no idea about the strike,” she said. "There aren't any trains running, so I’m kind of just stuck.”
She originally was supposed to fly from LaGuardia Airport this morning, but rescheduled her flight to 4 p.m. to give her more time to find a way into the city.
Dement said she felt “pretty frustrated” as Uber quoted her $60 for a 5-mile ride.
She then went to Village Taxi at the station.
They quoted her $120 for a ride to LaGuardia and $158 to Jamaica. They also offered a $70 ride to Farmingdale.
Dement said unless she can find someone to split a cab with she doesn’t know what to do.
