1 dead after being hit by subway train 1 hurt in fall on tracks

One person was killed by a subway train and another injured in separate cases 19 minutes apart at the same Harlem station Tuesday, the NYPD said.

At the 125th Street station on the Lexington Avenue line, an injured man climbed from the tracks onto the platform at 4:12 p.m., just before an approaching No. 5 express train, said police spokesman Paul Browne.

The 50-year-old man was in stable condition Tuesday night at Harlem Hospital Center with a "deep gash" to his left buttock, cuts on his right leg and a broken pelvis, Browne said.

Nineteen minutes later, on the opposite side of the platform, a rider on a northbound No. 6 train stood outside, "using the space in between the fifth and sixth cars sort of as a toilet," Browne said.

When the train began to move, the 31-year-old Bronx man lost his balance, fell to the tracks and was crushed to death, according to Browne. His name was withheld.
