Hempstead Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby and the Including People of Value Agency will donate more than $2,000 to Long Island Cares’ Veterans Outreach Program on April 3.

The money was raised after the Salute to Veterans Gospel Benefit Concert on Veterans Day at Hempstead High School. The proceeds will provide food to impoverished veterans in the town.

Long Island Cares established the Veterans Outreach Program two years ago. The organization began Military Appreciation Tuesdays about a year ago, providing food to in-need veterans. It takes place every week from noon to 4 p.m. at the Freeport center. The program reaches about 50 veterans a month, according to executive director Paule Pachter.

The donation will be presented by Goosby and Regina L. Williams of the Including People of Value Agency at noon at the Nassau Service Center in Freeport. For more information about the event or Long Island Cares, call 631-582-3663.
