A blaze at a block of row houses in the Bronx Saturday afternoon injured 18 firefighters and two occupants, the city Fire Department said.
Two firefighters became trapped when the fire caused a wall in a multifamily home to collapse. They were rescued by fellow firefighters.
The four-alarm fire started shortly after 1 p.m. and was brought under control after about two hours. An FDNY spokesman said 168 firefighters responded.
The injured firefighters were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where they were in stable condition last night, the spokesman said. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
The injured occupants were treated and released at the fire scene.
The fire started at a three-story house on Van Nest Avenue near Hunt Avenue and spread to five others, the spokesman said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire marshal's office. With AP
