PATRICK FARMER
Runner of the Year
St. Anthony's

Senior
Farmer’s emergence to the top of the track ladder was quick and smooth. The Virginia-bound sprinter, participating in the sport for the first time after four years of soccer, set Suffolk indoor records in both the 300 and 400. He proved those times were far from a fluke as he won the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA 300 championship and then the Federation 300 title in 34.86 seconds, edging Bellport’s Jaquan Holland (34.32).

SANCHO BARRETT

55 hurdles, Senior
Barrett was Long Island’s top 55-meter hurdler from start to finish this winter. He capped his great indoor season with a state public schools championship in the event with a career-best time of 7.473. Barrett was beaten out for the Federation title in a photo finish by Sheepshead Bay’s Richmond Ahadzi (7.471).

Charles nearly pulled off the daily double as he set a career mark in the indoor jump with a leap of 23 feet, 81/2 inches. Charles was beat out for the Federation by Anthony DeJean of Rome Free Academy, who jumped 23-9.

JOSHUA HAGHIGHI
Wheatley

Shotput, Senior
The Maryland-bound Haghighi had two specific goals this season. The first was to win the Federation crown. The second was to throw over 60 feet. It was mission accomplished for Haghighi, who broke 60 feet twice, and won the Federation shot put title with a toss of 59-2 1/2 at Cornell on March 6.
