2011 All-Long Island girls lacrosse team

MIKAELA RIX
Nassau Player of the Year
Garden City, Midfielder, Sr.
Rix is widely regarded as a top-five high school player in the country (ESPN ranked her third), and her resume warrants it. She is a two-time All-American, member of the under-19 national team and the leader of a Garden City squad coming off its sixth consecutive Class B state title and ranked second in the nation. She excelled at both ends of the field and had 75 points (54 goals). The Trojans’ dominance is what kept Rix’s numbers from being even loftier as she often sat late in blowout games. She’ll play at Boston College.

JENNIFER PORRETTO
Suffolk Player of the Year
Hauppauge, Attack, Sr.
A versatile and agile attack, Porretto became one of Long Island’s best playmakers. She had an Island-best 64 assists, which ranked ninth nationally, according to ESPN Rise, and her 135 points were tied for third on LI. Porretto was the model of consistency as she averaged an Island-leading 6.75 points per game (min. 16 games) and registered a point on more than half of Hauppauge’s goals. She improved her game dramatically from 2010, doubling her goals from 35 to 71, and led the Eagles to an undefeated regular season and their first Suffolk Class B title. She’ll play at Ohio State.

OCTAVIA WILLIAMS
Floyd, Midfielder, Sr.
A threat everywhere on the field and most impressive outside of the box score, Williams drew multiple defenders and opened the field for Floyd’s attackers. She totaled 32 goals and 19 assists to go with 58 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers. Williams will play at Johns Hopkins.

BARBARA SULLIVAN
Garden City, Mid/Def, Sr.
A lockdown defender, Sullivan also scored 30 goals. The All-American won Long Island championships in soccer, basketball and lacrosse this scholastic year. She’s a member of the under-19 national team and will play for Notre Dame.

CASEY MCGOWAN
West Islip, Defender, Sr.
McGowan played strictly on defense after playing midfield much of her career. She had 102 ground balls, 36 forced turnovers and 24 interceptions while leading the West Islip defense. She’ll play at Georgetown.

KERRIN MAURER
St. Anthony’s, Attack, Sr.
The two-time All-American had 98 points (72 goals) and led the Friars to a fourth straight CHSAA Class AA title and a No. 3 national ranking. She’ll play at Duke.

KELLY MCPARTLAND
Farmingdale, Midfielder, Sr.
Considered the best pure athlete in Long Island girls lacrosse, fellow All-Americans often marveled at McPartland’s speed. She totaled 87 points for the Dalers, is a member of the under-19 national team, and will play at Maryland.

CORTNEY FORTUNATO

MEGAN MARINELLI
Northport, Mid/Def, Sr.
Marinelli shut down top opposing attackers. The All-American scored 19 goals to go with 23 assists and was named state tournament MVP for Class A champion Northport. She’ll play at Georgetown.

KELLY WEIS
Garden City, Goalie, Sr.
With great instincts and aggressiveness in the cage, Weis was the Trojans’ only four-year starter and is a two-time All-American. The Harvard-bound star was named tournament MVP after leading Garden City to a sixth consecutive Class B state championship.

JAMIE LEONE
Farmingdale, Attack, Sr.
Leone transformed from scorer to playmaker this season, orchestrating Farmingdale’s offense. The All-American had a county-high 55 assists (plus 33 goals) and led the Dalers to a sixth straight Nassau Class A championship. She’ll play at Fairfield.

PAULA SCHMIDT
Wantagh, Attack, Sr.
A deft score-or-pass threat on offense, Schmidt totaled 95 points (58 goals) and led Wantagh to the Nassau Class B semifinals. The two-time All-American will play for North Carolina.

HALLE MAJORANA
Manhasset, Attack, Jr.
With an array of moves, slick passes and shots from all angles, Majorana is an elite offensive player. She totaled 92 points (43 assists) in leading the Indians to the Nassau Class B final. The two-time All-American is verbally committed to Maryland.

SHANNON GILROY
Northport, Att/Mid, Sr.
Gilroy led Long Island with 142 points and 103 goals to finish her career No. 4 in goals (422) and No. 11 is assists (148) in state history. The three-time All-American will miss the opportunity to play for the under-19 national team and in the Under Armour All-America game after tearing her ACL but is expected to be cleared in time to play at Florida next season.

DIANE CHAPMAN
Nassau Coach of the Year
Garden City
Nassau Coach of the Year: Diane Chapman, Garden City Chapman led the Trojans to a record sixth straight Class B state title and the program’s 14th overall. Garden City also had its second consecutive undefeated season.

ABIGAIL ZELTMANN
Suffolk Coach of the Year
Hauppauge
In just her second year at Hauppauge, Zeltmann led the Eagles to an undefeated regular season and their first Suffolk Class B title.
