The 2016 MLB schedule was officially released yesterday, and one New York team has a surprise to start the season.

The Mets will begin their 2016 campaign with an interleague matchup in Kansas City against the Royals.

The Yankees will host the Astros in their opener.

Next season, which will mark the 20th year of interleague play, is set to begin on April 4. The Mets will face the AL Central while the Yanks will take on the NL West during the season's interleague slate of games.

All four games in the 2016 Subway Series will take place Aug. 1-4, with the first two at Citi Field and the next pair at Yankee Stadium.
