23,000 infant car seats being recalled

The Chaperone infant car seat is under recall because a clip on the chest harness can break loose and poses a risk of cuts or a choking hazard. The seat, made in China, is imported by Britax Child Safety Inc., of Charlotte, N.C. Consumers are urged to stop using the seat as is and contact Britax for a free repair kit, which includes a replacement kit. Britax is recalling about 23,000 infant car seats due to faulty harness clips.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the clip on the chest harness of the Chinese-made car seats can break loose and pose a risk of cuts or a choking hazard.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based Britax Child Safety Inc. has received three reports of cuts and scratches and one report of a child placing a broken clip in his mouth.
The seats were sold nationwide as well as on the Britax website from June 2009 to October 2010.
