23 of 4,744 vote on Halesite fire truck

Voters in the Halesite Fire District on Tuesday approved the purchase of a fire truck by a vote of 20 to 3. The vote was held in the firehouse from 6 to 9 p.m.
The vote approved the purchase of a Ferrara Fire Apparatus four-wheel drive, 1,000 gallon-per-minute pumper for an estimated $289,499.
Of that cost, $100,000 will be taken from the district’s capital reserve fund; the rest will be financed at 4.45 percent interest through Community Leasing Partners, which finances municipal purchases, for 10 years.
The Halesite Fire District, which covers Halesite as well as the Village of Huntington Bay and the surrounding areas, has 4,744 registered voters.
