25 developers interested in Huntington site

Town of Huntington officials say about 25 developers expressed interest in redeveloping 1000 New York Ave. in the week after the demolition of the abandoned automobile repair shop on the site.
On March 11 the building, long considered an eyesore, was torn down and the town issued a request for proposals for development of the site at New York Avenue and Olive Street. The town wants a 10,800-square-foot, mixed-use building with a pedestrian plaza in front.
Developers are offered two options: They can submit a proposal for a mixed-use building, eligible for reimbursement of construction costs up to $1.07 million, or for a commercial building, for which grant money would not be certain.
The developer would purchase the site from the town for $535,000, the price the town paid through eminent domain. Town officials have scheduled a March 25 informational conference and site visit for developers; their proposals would be due May 25.
The town secured a $1.17-million State Restore New York Communities grant to assist in the project.
