3 emergency prep seminars scheduled
State and Suffolk County emergency management specialists will speak at
The first will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dix Hills Fire Department, 115 E. Deer Park Rd. Additional seminars are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 at the Selden Fire Department, 44 Woodmere Place, and 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the Smithtown main library, 1 North Country Rd. All seminars are free.
Each meeting will include presentations on preparing for emergencies such as hurricanes and power outages. Also included are safety tips such as preparing a disaster supply kit and developing a family communications plan.
Officials from the state and county emergency management offices, the American Red Cross and the Long Island Power Authority are scheduled to speak.
Because of limited seating at each event, residents are urged to make reservations by calling the office of state Sen. John Flanagan (R-East Northport) at 631-361-2154.
Reservations can be made on Flanagan’s website -- flanagan.nysenate.gov -- by clicking on the Emergency Preparedness Information Center link on the home page.
The website also has directions to the seminars and emergency preparedness tips.
