4 used car dealers charged
Four used car dealers in Valley Stream were charged
yesterday with failing to report millions of dollars in car sales, Nassau
District Attorney Denis Dillon said.
Dillon said the owners of A&I Auto Center, 780 West Merrick Rd., failed to
report about $4.3 million in car sales from March 2001 to May 2005, thus
failing to pay Nassau County $382,416 in sales tax.
Ilya Kuyenov, 35, of 246 Kiswick St. in Staten Island, and Alexander
Aronov, 36, 439 Loretto St. in Staten Island, pleaded not guilty in Hempstead
District Court to second-degree grand larceny, a felony, and other charges.
If convicted, they face a maximum of 5 to 15 years in prison.
Judge Martin Massell set bail at $100,000 cash or bond, an amount that
their attorney, Kevin Keating of Garden City, said they are making arrangements
to pay.
"These are both reputable men in their 30s - homeowners and fathers with no
prior records," he said. "We're going to work extra hard to get to the bottom
of this allegation."
Marina and Boris Michaelov, who run United Motors Inc., at 344 Merrick Rd.,
failed to report about $1.2 million in car sales from March 2004 to February
2005, Dillon said. Investigators are searching for them.
They have been charged with second-degree grand larceny and other charges.
"This is a crime against all the citizens of Nassau County and New York
State," said Assistant District Attorney William Wallace.
