$400G grant to repave Hampton Bays road

A $400,000 state transportation grant will pay for the repaving of a busy Hampton Bays road.

The grant for Springville Road, secured by State Sen. Kenneth P. LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) and Assemb. Fred Thiele Jr. (I-Sag Harbor), was requested through the N.Y. Transportation Department’s “multimodal”  funding.

“This critically important state funding helps Southampton with its highway infrastructure,” LaValle said in a news release. “I am pleased that it will enable the town to move forward with road improvements without placing additional pressure on local property taxes.“

Springville Road is a heavily trafficked street, said Southampton Town spokeswoman Jennifer Garvey, used frequently by local residents as a cut-through going south from Montauk Highway. It is also close to Hampton Bays Elementary School, and used by students for walking to school.

The money will pay for a repaving of the road and widening  some intersections, LaValle said.

The “multimodal” state funding is used for restoration and repair of local roads that have at least a 10-year life span.
