7 observations from Tuesday's practice
It was a long practice, or as Aaron Glenn called it “a dog day,” with the first-team getting “a ton of reps.”
Geno Smith, unofficially, completed 14 of 18 passes. He didn’t get in the end zone, but he was very accurate, made some good throws over the middle to Adonai Mitchell and Garrett Wilson, and showed some mobility moving around the pocket on a sore ankle that kept him out of Friday’s first preseason game. Smith spread the ball around, hitting seven different receivers.
With Breece Hall (groin) sidelined, Kene Nwangwu was more involved in the run and pass game.
Jeremy Ruckert had at least five catches but one bad fumble after running a nice route and being wide open in the middle of the field.
Defensively, rookie edge rusher David Bailey made a play in coverage, breaking up a pass to Nwangwu.
The Jets picked off rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik twice. One should have been caught by the back and the other was deflected. Klubnik threw a short pass to Chip Trayanum that was in his hands, but it bounced off and Sam Womack was there to intercept it. Practice ended with Will McDonald tipping the ball in coverage that Azareye’h Thomas intercepted.
Among the Jets alumni in attendance were Elmont’s Vinny Testaverde, Kevin Mawae, Keyshawn Johnson and C.J. Mosley.
