9/11 bill met with GOP opposition

The recent letter blaming Democrats for holding up the Zadroga bill ["Blame Democrats for Zadroga delay," Jan. 3], which provides medical care for the 9/11 first-responders, is a classic example of wishing will make it so.
Perhaps the writer forgets the recent fracas in the House, when Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Forest Hills) excoriated the GOP for not voting for the bill. Perhaps he doesn't realize that the bill itself was shrunk from $7.4 billion to $4.3 billion because of Republican protests. Finally, I guess he doesn't remember the crowd of first-responders who descended on the office of Republican Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.), because Republicans were blocking the bill.
Revisionist history just won't wash.
