A nice reminder of jazz immortals

What a great story about the legendary piano jazz artist Marty Napoleon ["Long-playing artist," Act II, April 16.]

I remember seeing him at the Metropole Café in New York City in the late '50s. This man had class behind his piano playing.

I was too young to go into the Metropole but would stand for hours and hours outside looking in, because they had a large mirror, and the fans from outside could see and hear the best of jazz, free.

I will never forget seeing Mr. Napoleon along with the great Gene Krupa, Cozy Cole and the other immortals of swing and jazz.

Thank you Newsday for giving this man recognition on his 90th birthday -- and showing some terrific photos.
