A multiple-vehicle crash involving westbound and eastbound traffic has closed Sunrise Highway in both directions between Exit 50 and Exit 51 in the South Holbrook-East Holbrook area early Monday.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department said the road was closed at 2:27 a.m. and said it remained closed at 6:30 a.m. for an accident investigation.

However, the Sheriff’s Department would not confirm if the accident involved fatalities — and would not provide any details regarding the crash.

It was unclear how many vehicles were involved.

The accident closed the road between Lincoln Avenue, Exit 50, and Nicolls Road, Exit 51.

Meanwhile, Suffolk County police are investigating a serious motor vehicle accident in Mount Sinai, which also occurred at 2:27 a.m. Monday. That crash closed Hallock Road near Crystal Brook Road.

Police said details were not immediately available.
