The Oyster Bay-East Norwich school district was among the very few budgets that did not pass. Yet the superintendent said she did not interpret her budget defeat as a message from voters ["Do more with less, voters say," News, May 19]. Again, this budget failed.

We would hope the head administrator would be more in touch with the financial woes and concerns that beset us.

We do require and expect our school board to exercise fiscal restraint. Those involved in the budget process should identify programs and personnel that can be eliminated or reduced. With collective will and effort, quality programs can be maintained.
