A Stony Brook veteran returning from Afghanistan will get a hero’s welcome Friday at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip.

Pfc. Robert Turner, of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, will be greeted at 5:53 p.m. by local officials, family and members of the Patriot Guard Riders and Blue Star Mothers.

Turner’s father, Artie Turner, is a MacArthur Airport law enforcement officer and race director of the airport’s first 5K Run for Veterans in June. The event raised more than $40,000 for wounded veterans.
