Although the Independence Party is still being elusive about it, some political insiders expect the party will announce candidate endorsements for this fall's elections as soon as Friday -- the day after Democrats are due to nominate Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo for a second term.

That would get the party on the record a full week ahead of another minor party vying for Cuomo's attention: the labor-backed Working Families Party, which meets May 31.

Cuomo had both endorsements in 2010. This time, some Democrats don't want him to take the Independence line -- and some WFP members don't want to give the governor their backing.
