This week's meeting of the state Board of Regents not only focuses on the controversial Common Core academic standards, but also outlines all the politics surrounding it.
You have parents and teachers booing state education officials at public meetings; the state's largest teachers union going through internal turmoil over union elections; rank-and-file state legislators, reacting to constituents, considering passing a law to postpone the Common Core; Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo telling legislators not to do so because, in part, it might impact a teacher-evaluation law he prides himself on; and a potential Republican gubernatorial candidate seizing on the problems by calling it "Cuomo's Common Core." -- Yancey Roy
