Alexis Smith a finalist for award

St. John the Baptist senior point guard Alexis Smith is one of seven finalists for Miss New York Basketball. The Basketball Coaches Association of New York will vote this month and announce the winner in March.

Smith is being considered along with Bri Kiesel (Utica Proctor), Brianna Newman (William Grady), Nia Oden (Christ the King), Katie Roth (Maple Hill), Bria Smith (Christ the King), and Keri Soppe (Irondequoit).

A Long Island player has won the award the last two seasons. Bria Hartley (North Babylon) won it last season and Ieasia Walker was the recipient in 2009.
