American Airlines flight returns to JFK with 'haze' in cabin

An American Airlines plane out of Kennedy Airport on Wednesday afternoon returned after takeoff because "there was a haze in the cabin" that caused the crew to abort the flight to North Carolina, an airline spokeswoman said.

Dori Alvarez, the spokeswoman, said there were no injuries to any of the 31 passengers or three crew members on board the Embraer 140 aircraft. American Eagle Flight 4403 left at 2:50 p.m., she said, and returned to Kennedy Airport at 3:30 p.m.

"It landed without incident," Alvarez said. "Passengers were put on another plane and left at 5:51 and arrived 7:39 in Raleigh-Duram."

The cause of the haze was not immediately determined, she said, but airline maintenance crews were examining the aircraft.
