American holiday, American food
This weekend is about American food, old-fashioned and newfangled. Some of the dishes might have enticed George and Abe, too. Here are three to suit the holiday.
Market Bistro in Jericho combines the traditional and the modern with ease. It's a very comfortable, upbeat spot for a cheeseburger, Gruyère and blue-cheese varieties; braised short ribs; skillet-roasted chicken; pan-seared strip steak; duck breast with butternut-squash ragout; and lamb sliders.

Cooperage Inn in Baiting Hollow has a warm, nostalgic style, plus dishes such as barbecued chicken and ribs, marinated and grilled pork chop with apple chutney, meat loaf, chicken potpie, shrimp cocktail, ample salads and a generous buffet brunch served on Sundays.

Oak Room Tavern in Sea Cliff looks as if it could have hosted visitors from another century. The Tudor-style eatery used to be a private home and it's cozy-unto-tight. This friendly establishment is good for hoisting a brew and downing maple-glazed roasted turkey or roasted chicken.
