Amityville trustees on Monday once more reserved decision on a cabaret license for El Rodeo, after hearing details of an October knife attack on a patron whose ears and neck were slashed on the sidewalk outside the bar.

Trustees noted that the landlord of the 528 Broadway bar was fixing potholes, sidewalks and the building facade, but warned bar owners Ana and Edgar Reyes that the continued violence was unacceptable.

“People are coming out at 4 in the morning extremely intoxicated,” said Mayor Peter Imbert. “If you don’t control what goes on your property, you will not get any more approvals and you will be shut down.”

The wounded man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip after police answered a 4:12 a.m. 911 call on Oct. 20. A police report named no suspects in the incident.

Edgar Reyes told the board that he had attempted to send the man home in a cab, but the man declined. The attack happened after the effort to get the man a taxi, Reyes said.

Reyes and his wife declined to comment after Monday night’s board meeting.
