Construction of a new parking in Amityville to alleviate a shortage of spaces in the village should be finished within a month, Mayor Peter Imbert said at Monday night's board of trustees meeting.

Imbert gave the update in response to a complaint from businessman Reid Carter, who said people are routinely violating the two-hour limit on Park Avenue.

“Parking is a problem everywhere,” Imbert said at the meeting.

The new lot is at 15 Ireland Pl., behind Park Avenue and next to Village Hall.

In other business, Trustee Joe Slack said that village ballfields and playgrounds are being prepared for spring play.

Trustee Peter Casserly said that one of the two village ambulances is in the shop for repairs.

Trustee Ed Johnson said the village has collected $50,728 in fines this year.
