Amityville votes yes on library budget
Voters in Amityville have approved a library budget for 2011-12 that calls for a 4.97 percent increase in the amount to be raised by property taxes.
Passage of the $2,613,046 budget in voting Tuesday was a sign that voters acknowledged the library’s importance to the community, said Nora Schual, director of the Amityville Public Library.
“These are difficult times,” she said. “But in the last five years our circulation has increased by over 25 percent and our computer use by 36 percent.”
Amityville voters also approved a proposition to raise $700,000 to redo the building’s roof and its heating and ventilation systems.
