Angels lose again as struggles continue for Pujols
Darnell McDonald hit a tiebreaking three-run double and homered to help the Boston Red Sox rally past the host Chicago White Sox, 10-3, on Friday night. David Ortiz hit a two-run shot for the Red Sox, who are 5-0 since blowing a 9-0 lead against the Yankees last Saturday for their fifth straight loss. Boston starter Daniel Bard (2-2) threw seven strong innings for the win.
Indians 3, Angels 2: Asdrubal Cabrera singled home the winning run with one out in the ninth inning for host Cleveland. Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 as Los Angeles lost its fifth straight. Pujols is homerless in 20 games since signing a 10-year, $240-million contract to join the Angels.
Rays 8, Rangers 4: Evan Longoria homered and drove in four runs to help James Shields improve to 4-0 as visiting Tampa Bay extended its winning streak to six games.
Mariners 9, Blue Jays 5: Michael Saunders hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the 10th, as visiting Seattle extended its winning streak to a season-high four games.
Royals 7, Twins 6: Alex Gordon and Billy Butler each hit a two-run homer as visiting Kansas City won its third straight after a 12-game losing streak.
Athletics 5, Orioles 2: Brandon McCarthy won for the first time this season, pitching seven solid innings, and Eric Sogard hit a two-run home run for visiting Oakland.
Diamondbacks 5, Marlins 0: Joe Saunders pitched a three-hitter and Jason Kubel tied a career best with four hits as Arizona sent host Miami to its sixth straight loss. On a day when Miami team president David Samson ran the equivalent of two marathons -- 52.4 miles that raised $550,000 for charity -- the Marlins failed to get a runner past first base.
Cubs 5, Phillies 1: Paul Maholm pitched 61/3 solid innings and Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI as Chicago beat host Philadelphia. The Phillies have scored two or fewer runs in 11 of 20 games this season.
Cardinals 13, Brewers 1: Matt Holliday had three hits and host St. Louis scored eight runs in the third inning. Jake Westbrook (3-1) gave up one run in seven innings. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in all four of his starts.
Astros 6, Reds 4: Wandy Rodriguez gave up two earned runs in six innings and Jose Altuve knocked in two runs for visiting Houston.
Nats bring up Harper
Bryce Harper, the 19-year-old outfielder who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 amateur draft, will be recalled by the Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse and start Saturday to replace injured third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who is going on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.
