Applewhaite's shots propel Glen Cove
Marcella Applewhaite hit a three-pointer with a minute left to give Glen Cove a two-point lead and then hit a jumper in the closing seconds to seal a 42-38 Conference ABC-V girls basketball win over West Hempstead Wednesday.
Locust Valley 36, Westbury 32: Taylor Coddington (six points) hit a layup to give Locust Valley a 34-32 lead with 1:30 left in Conference ABC-II. Locust Valley (6-4) clinched the top seed entering the Class B playoffs.
Lindenhurst 52, Connetquot 43: Colleen Ames had 21 points for Lindenhurst (6-5), which clinched its first playoff berth in 17 years, according to coach Greg Flynn. BOYS BASKETBALL
Portledge 59, Solomon Schecter 51: Christian Sbarro scored 21 of his 32 points in a 29-9 fourth quarter for Portledge (7-4) in IPPSAL.

E. Islip wins Division I tournament. East Islip won the Suffolk Division I tournament, topping Sachem East, 4,695-4,506. The Redmen trailed the Flaming Arrows by 140 pins after two games but rallied to roll 1,158 and 1,263 in the final two games. John Knieriemen shot a 779 series for East Islip.Holy Trinity 3, St. Anthony's 0:Mike Genovese rolled a 220 in Game 1 of a 621 series to lead No. 1 Holy Trinity, 1,090-1,041, 1,222-1,021, 1,095-967, in the CHSAA semifinals. Paul Croluk had a 277 in Game 2 of a 730 series for St. Anthony's.Holy Trinity will face St. John the Baptist in the final at 4 p.m. Thursday at Farmingdale Lanes.
