About 200 students in schools from West Babylon to Montauk will take part Monday in the fifth annual LongHouse Student Annual, an art competition held at the LongHouse Reserve, noted textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen’s 16-acre home and sculpture garden in East Hampton.
The students, from kindergarten to 12th grade, submitted individual or joint projects in 15 categories, including three pieces of performance art, according to Selena Rothwell, who chairs the LongHouse education committee.
Awards are being given from 4 to 5 p.m. A reception will be held for the students and their families from 5 to 6 p.m. Rothwell said that students from every grade gather for the awards ceremony. “We try and have the high school students reflect on where they came from,” she said.
Last year, about 325 people attended.
LongHouse is a 13,000-square-foot structure raised on stilts which reflects the Ise Shrine in Japan. While the house is not open to the public, its extensive sculpture garden is regularly open to public viewings.
