Artwork puts focus on autism awareness

Dozens of pieces of art will be exhibited at two Uniondale sites, showing off the talents of those with autism and other disabilities for the rest of April, which is National Autism Awareness Month.

The artwork is part of a therapy program sponsored by the Old Bethpage-based Family Residences and Essential Enterprises. The Uniondale sites for the art pieces are the Omni Building at 333 Earle Ovington Blvd. and the RXR Building, off Hempstead Turnpike, at 623 RXR Plaza — the largest office building on Long Island.

RXR real estate officials said they would exhibit some of the art at many of their sites around Long Island.

Legis. Dennis Dunne (R-Levittown), who has seen the exhibit and said he was an artist while a student at Hofstra University, called the three-year program “wonderful and phenomenal.”

He vowed to work toward having the artwork exhibited around the nation.

“Not only is it great for them, it is for us, as well,” he said.
