Assistance available for Sandy victims

Representatives of the state Department of Financial Services will hold a series of meetings this week to assist superstorm Sandy victims on Long Island.
The sessions are designed to “help homeowners, renters and business owners with insurance-related issues stemming from damage caused by Storm Sandy,” the agency said in a statement. Benjamin Lawsky, superintendent of the agency, announced the sessions Monday.
The meetings will be held:
* Today, at 86 E. Park Ave. in Long Beach until 6 p.m.
* Wednesday, at 1101 Sunrise Hwy. in Copiague from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
* Thursday, at 100 Main St. in East Rockaway from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
* Friday, at 11 Lawrence Lane in Lawrence from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sandy victims also are encouraged to call the department’s storm hotline at 800-339-1759, agency officials said. The hotline is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, officials said.
